TCPA commends the PUC Commissioners and staff for their diligent efforts to ensure a reliable grid for all Texans. Today’s adoption of the PCM is an important step toward the creation of a reliability service that would make it economically viable for companies to invest in the new dispatchable generation needed during periods of low renewable output in ERCOT.
The PCM builds reliability into the successful competitive market in Texas, paying for the reliability that ERCOT needs to power Texas when the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining, but without paying resources for merely existing. We look forward to working with the Legislature, the Commission, ERCOT, and other stakeholders to ensure the PCM is ultimately implemented in a way that achieves the Commission’s and Legislature’s goals of ensuring that Texas’ competitive market is maintained with a greater reliability to serve Texans for generations to come.
